Location: Tokyo, Japan [Grandparents' house. Leaving in 8 hours..]
I've been complaining about Japan for the longest time.
"How's Japan??"
"Its okay"
I've had this conversation countless times during the past year. Especially in Canada probably because there's a small Japanese community there and rarely do the people there hear about Japan.
So anyway, Japan, is not THAT bad actually. As long as the stay is less than 2 weeks. Maybe a month for those who are curious. Anything over that is..too much for me. So this time was perfect. 3 days.
Plane Ride
Actually, I'll talk a bit about the plane ride, since it was one of the most pleasant rides I've been on for a while. For one, I got to sit in the emergency exit seat, which means leg space and no
”excuse-me-may-I-need-to-piss” and no "oh-I-should-piss-before-this guy-next-to-me-falls-asleep". Second, the guy next to me was cool. He's an English teacher at an univ in Shinjuku. He's originally from Texas and also lived in San Diego, so it was interesting talking to him. Probably talked to him about 4 hours..mainly about Japanese people and food, and some random stuff about the US. After talking to him and reading books, there was only an hour remaining. Smoooth. Oh and Delta served breakfast burrito. Well done.
Bloomberg
I also visited Bloomberg LP in Tokyo's Marunouchi Building (Maru-Biru?). After passing heavy security and taking pictures, I met Ms.K, who gave me a brief orientation and showed me around the office. Absolutely stunned by the office. Bloomberg has 4 floors in the building, from the 19th to the 22th. Apparently the Bloomberg office in Japan is the 3rd largest globally (out of apprx 154) after New York and London. Other firms in the building included Toyota, Harvard Business School, and other major MNC. I was able to see all 4 floors and Ms.K kindly explained to me the design and concepts of the entire office. For example, there are almost no walls in the office to maintain transparency, and even all meeting room walls were see-through. Oh and there it was, the one thing that would motivate me to go to work every morning. Heelllloooooooooo snack stations and huge fridges!! For FREE
I'm not that excited for job-hunting in Japan, but I realized that a firm like Bloomberg pinpoints my ideal in term of working environment and work force (and snack bar & fridge). Anyway, exploring the office was a good experience regardless of the internship, because rarely are outsiders allowed to enter inside the office.
So it was a pretty good stay in Japan. Nice and short (literally, 3 days). Except it rained the whole time here.. Tomorrow morning at 6:30 I will leave for Narita airport. Next stop, India.
