So I would to dedicate this post to a very special something: Food. Mainly, Turkish Food. I've been saving this actually, and I'm sure its far more interesting to see on this blog than some of my pervious entries. So here it is.
Turkish food, as you know, is one of the best. In Japan its praised as one of the 3 most tastiest food in the world, along with Chinese and Italian food.
There's so many dishes in Turkey that it's impossible to mention it all. So I'll try to talk about what I know best (or better): street food and drinks. And stay away from things I don't know: anything fancier than street food.
1. Doner (Kebab)
2. Borek. Had some for breakfast couple of times. Available anywhere on the street. You can usually choose from variety. Options include, for example, cheese, meat, tomato sauce, and spinach. Cheap and tasty, perfect for me.
3. Sweets
There's so many types that I'll just have to post photos and let you imagine how good it actually tastes
3A: Lokum. The famous Turkish Delight, but real name is Lokum. Flavors come in variety; from plain, strawberry, to coconut. So soft that it melts..
3B: Peynir Helvasi. A local favorite in Canakkale.
3C: Baklava. Oh these are deadly..the sweetest of them all. They're like pastries that are drenched in syrup and honey (why both?). I found these EVERYWHERE, but all in different size, color, and shape. Heavenly for sweet tooth.
3D: Pastries. These are everywhere too. Could look at these for ages..
3E: ??? I'm actually not quite sure what this is..I only saw it once. The man makes a candy bar right in front of you, and you just tell him what flavors you want.
4. Dondurma (Turkish ice cream). You can't see it here, but the man is spinning around the ice cream and making it stretch out. Half of it is performance to draw tourists. It definitely works though.
5. Coffee
Because Cay is what everyone drinks in Turkey, and the coffee in restaurants aren't the same as I'm used to, sometimes I miss my old coffee. Whenever I see these I must have one, or even two Americanos
5. Oh, endless good stuff.
Frikin awesome
Okay, so for the most part I just posted photos. To be honestly, I didn't have some of them. Especially from the last part. Mainly because they aren't street food and not so easily accessible for backpackers. I've met many backpackers just buying a box of borek or lokum and just munch on those because they're so good and cheap (I did it many times with borek). But the food culture here is truly fascinating and it makes me full just walking around the city.
THE DONER LOOKS SO GOOD. i had a chicken doner wrap last week myself, turkish food is so yummy.. and turkish sauces.. you are so lucky i hate you
